There seems to be a growing number of food scientists, who are claiming that many of the food we love to eat are loaded with toxins and chemicals that are not washed or cleaned away by any methods.
Recently in every magazine you pick up they have a new list of foods that are supposedly doing our bodies great harm. I just thought I would pass on a couple of the foods they are talking about and what they claim is wrong with these specific food and what they offer as a solution. It was a little depressing to see some of the foods they choose, because I thought they were healthy foods to eat.
1. Canned tomatoes- The problem stated by Fredrick Vom Saal, PHD, endocrinologist at the University of Missouri.
The problem with canned tomatoes is the resin linings of the tin cans contain Bisphenol-A, a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to ailments ranging from reproductive problems to heart disease. You can get 50 mcg of BPA per liter out of a tomato can, and that's a level that is going to impact people particularly the young. Says vom Saal, "I won't go near canned tomatoes"
2. Microwave Popcorn- The problem states by Olga Naidenko, PHD, senior scientist for the Environmental working group.
Chemicals in the lining of the bag including PFOA which is a acid that is part of a class of compounds that may be linked to infertility in humans according to a recent study from UCLA. Studies show that microwaving causes the chemicals to vaporize and migrate into your popcorn.
The solutions is to choose tomatoes in glass bottles or boxes whenever possible, even a pasta sauce which is low in sodium is recommended. The solution for popcorn is to use the old standby natural kernels and pop them the old fashion way in a skillet or pan using any flavoring you desire, from real butter to dried seasoning or soup mixes.
The one common thread through out these articles, is they highly recommend organic fruit, vegetables and grass fed over grain fed meats.
Most of this information was found in a variety of magazines, from Redbook, Better homes & Garden and Prevention. All of the articles highly recommend organic food whenever possible. Also their seems to be a push toward glass or box containers over the old tin cans that we are all so use too.
